ELEMENTARY GRADE CAMPS
(for kids who have completed 1st – 6th grade)

Day 1 (am and pm) -

* ‘che-Mystery’ of Chemistry:
Campers begin their exploration with a demonstration of the difference between physical and chemical reactions. This is followed by a display of chemical magic by turning water into grape juice… and back! They will be dazzled when they watch Styrofoam™ reduced to a puddle of goo, and see camphor provide the chemical equivalent of an outboard motor—all chemistry in motion. Sure, chemistry can produce some great tricks, but it’s also very useful. They apply their knowledge of chemical processes to make their own soda pop, “magic mud“ and even beautiful crystal gardens! They take home a color changing thermo-color cup!

* Mad Secret Messages:
Have children decipher the world around them as they learn different ways to send secret and mad messages. They learn how spies get their word around by encoding messages. They demonstrate their acid-base reaction knowledge into action as they make their messages appear and disappear. How about having fun with the classic Morse code? They send secret transmissions to their friends and interpret secret messages from them using our very own Mad Science Message Wheel, which they take home. They then have more fun creating their own secret colored message using color analysers or filters to see the pictures that they create.

Day 2 (am and pm) -

* Kitchen Chemistry:
Children get clued in on the chemical reactions that occur when they prepare, analyze, and digest their food. The camp gets cooking with a color-dizzying solution display. Children divide common kitchen activities into chemical and physical reactions. A balloon blow-up demonstration helps them discover that yeast makes bread rise, and milk has fats that create color explosion. Children test food samples in search of nutrients, starch, and protein. They discover what happens after they eat and digest nutrient-rich foods with their own Digestor Inspector take-home.

* Space Tech Zoom:
Space Technology starts with an exploration of space related technologies used on Earth. Children help laser light through a maze, use principles of radar technology to find hidden mountains, and discover the importance of points of reference to depth perception. From there, they zoom into space with the launch of a satellite into orbit (at the edge of their tables). However, before zooming into space they learn rocket propulsion using the compressed air inside balloons for thrust. The camp will race balloon rockets and be challenged to devise a balloon-powered rocket car. Experimenting with the fast-moving air produced by spinning propellers, children build a unique Shuttle Copter to take home.

PRE-ELEMENTARY CAMPS
(For kids who are 4 years old - completed Kindergarten)

Day 1 (am only) -

* Dino-Bugs:
Get your campers ready to meet the Big, “Stegy-saurus” and the Tiny, Bony “Buggy”. They explore these fascinating creatures. They learn about their diets by their teeth and then make their tooth casts to bring home. They have fun digging for dino fossils. Campers learn that bugs, though small, are a huge part of life. They make up about 90% of the animal kingdom! They learn their body parts, their especial compound eyes. They learn about their defense mechanisms. Your camper may just be your zoologist in the making!

Day 2 (am only) -

* Water World:
Campers explore water up close as they learn about density and surface tension –why certain things float and sink in water. They also learn why some things absorb more water than others. They get mesmerized by the magic of water. They make their own “SparkleTube” to take home. Here comes the sea, sand, and surf….children discover how sand is created and observe shells up close. They discover what creatures live in the sea and play a game with a model turtle.
